Oil and Gas  [ Return towards  Our offer  ]

Increase performance and reduce emissions

Natural gas and other fuels made from crude oil are still the most important source of energy in our everyday life. This still growing market is undergoing profound changes as a result of new environmental regulations. Air Liquide, through its industrial experience, is developing integrated solutions to help you achieve your performance targets with respect to these environmental norms as well as to minimize investment and running costs.

Hydrogen

The desulphurization of petroleum products often requires hydrogen, especially in the US and Europe, where stringent legislation applies to the maximum sulphur content of gasoline and diesel. Hydrogen is also needed to reduce aromatic compounds in diesel fuels, which are damaging to health and to the environment.
Air Liquide now has dozens major hydrogen production units worldwide.
As key contributors to refineries and their processes, Air Liquide teams create effective and efficient solutions for optimizing hydrogen flows. These solutions are based on software and special devices. For example, a membrane-based system allows hydrogen to be recovered from refinery waste gas before the gas is burnt. This solution is advantageous from both an economic and an environmental standpoint.

Typical hydrogen purification applications in a refinery include:

  • catalytic reformer off-gas,
  • hydrotreater purge gases,
  • refinery fuel gas stream,
  • syngas from steam methane reformers,
  • syngas purification from a partial oxidation unit,
  • ethylene off-gas (integrated with a refinery),
  • styrene off-gas (integrated with a refinery),
  • coke oven gas,
  • ammonia plant off-gas (integrated with a refinery).

Oxygen

The GTL (Gas To Liquid) technology requires a large volume of oxygen. This technology allows natural gas deposits in to be transformed into easily transported products (clean diesel fuels, methanol, etc.). Air Liquide has a long-term experience in the field of this technology.
Oxygen is also used in the gasification of coal and petroleum residues.
