Leading supplier of industrial gases for the chemical sector
Chemicals play an important part in our life and their usage is still growing. For example, plastics' versatility allow it to be used in everything from car parts to doll parts, from soft drink bottles to the refrigerators they are stored in. From the car we drive to medicines we take, chemicals help make our life easier and better.
A large number of chemicals are produced using gases:
- oxygen: titanium dioxide (pigments for paints, inks, cosmetics), hydrogen peroxide (pulp and paper industry), ethylene oxide (detergents), polyurethanes (foams, insulating products), acetylene (welding), PVC (wide usage),
- nitrogen: fertilizers, polyethylene and polypropylene (plastics), methyl methacrylate (plexiglass, coatings),
- hydrogen: nylon, ethylene and propylene (plastics), butadiene (synthetic rubber), styrene (rubber, plastics), tetrahydrofuran (magnetic tapes, pharmaceuticals), methyl methacrylate (plexiglass, coatings), aniline (leather substitute, pigments), solvents (e.g. MEK, MIBK), sorbitol (food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals), fumed silica,
- carbon monoxide: polycarbonate (CDs, light transparent roofing, plastic for computer casting, anti vandal equipment, baby bottles, garbage cans, etc.), acetic acid (textile), polyurethanes (foams, insulating products), pivalic acid (agrochemical and pharmaceutically active substances), methyl propionate (low toxicity solvents for paints),
- syngas (hydrogen/carbon monoxide): methanol (solvent), ethyl hexanoate, butanediol.
Major chemical plants are increasingly outsourcing their industrial gas supplies. Air Liquide has enlarged offers to meet their needs and constructs production units of different capacities directly on customers' sites.
